Himanta Biswa Sarma released first volume of ‘Political History of Assam (1947-1971)’
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma released the first edition of ‘Political History of Assam (1947-1971)’- Volume 1, marking a significant step in documenting the state’s political journey.
- The book, envisioned to be completed in three volumes by 2025, covers the political events in Assam from 1947 to 2020. Authored by Dr. Rajen Saikia, an eminent historian and former President of the Indian History Congress, Modern India Section, this work aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the region’s political landscape during a crucial period in its history.
Odisha launches LABHA, a 100% State-funded MSP scheme for minor forest produce
The Odisha government announced the launch of LABHA (‘Laghu Bana Jatya Drabya Kraya’) Yojana a 100% State-funded minimum support price (MSP) scheme for minor forest produce (MFP).
- The main objective of Odisha LABHA Scheme is to develop the tribals of Odisha, under this the MSP of MFP will be established annually by the state government. The MFP is collected at the procurement centers by the Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation Limited of Odisha.
- Under this, permission to sell MFP at MSP will be provided through Odisha LABHA Scheme by a Chief Collector who is a member of the tribe.

Qatar Inks 15-year deal for Bangladesh Gas Supply
Qatar has signed a deal with US-based Excelerate Energy to supply Bangladesh with natural gas for 15 years, state-owned QatarEnergy said.
- Doha will supply Excelerate with one million tonnes of liquified natural gas (LNG) a year to be delivered to floating storage units in Bangladesh over the 15-year period starting in January 2026.
- The agreement follows a flurry of announcements for Qatari gas supply deals with China’s Sinopec, France’s Total, Britain’s Shell and Italy’s Eni, all announced last year.

THDCIL Inaugurates India’s Largest Green Hydrogen Pilot Project on 75th Republic Day
On the 75th Republic Day, THDC India Limited (THDCIL), a prominent Power Sector PSU, proudly unveiled India’s Largest Electrolyser End Fuel Cell-based Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at its office complex in Rishikesh.
- The initiative aligns with the “National Green Hydrogen Mission,” showcasing THDCIL’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
- The pilot project, utilizing a 1MW Rooftop Solar Plant, will produce 50KG of Green Hydrogen daily. The hydrogen will be stored in two tanks and used during night hours to illuminate the THDCIL office complex through a 70 Kw PEM Fuel Cell.

Sonam Maskar Wins Silver In Women’s Air Rifle In Cairo, Egypt
Sonam Maskar made a remarkable debut in the shooting World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, clinching the women’s air rifle silver medal. Despite her impressive performance, she was narrowly beaten by Anna Janssen of Germany by a mere 0.9 points. Maskar’s stellar performance highlights her potential as a rising star in the sport.
- Simranpreet Kaur Brar emerged as a strong contender by topping the qualification round with a score of 586 in the women’s 25-metre sports pistol event. However, despite her impressive performance, Brar finished fifth in the final.
- In the men’s skeet event, Munek Battula demonstrated his prowess by shooting an outstanding score of 74 out of 75, placing him among the leaders. Despite tough competition, Battula’s performance stood out, positioning him as a strong contender in the tournament.
Netherlands won FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup
Netherlands defeated India to win the final of the first FIH Hockey 5s Women’s World Cup played in Muscat, Oman.The Polish women’s team finished third in the competition
- In the final match, India had to face a 7-2 defeat by the Netherlands.Jyoti Chhatri (20th minute) and Rutaja Dadaso Pisal (23rd minute) scored goals for India.

Tanmay Agarwal smashes fastest triple-century in first-class cricket
Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal scripted history as Hyderabad wrapped up Day One at 529/1 in their 2023-24 Ranji Trophy clash against Arunachal Pradesh, at the NFC Cricket Ground in Secunderabad.
- The 28-year-old hammered an unbeaten knock of 323 off 160 balls, packed with 33 fours and 21 sixes, at a strike rate of 201.88, which also became the fourth-best strike rate among all batters with at least 200 runs in an innings. It is also the best by an Indian batter in first-class cricket.
- The opener also became the fastest cricketer to reach a triple ton in first-class cricket, going from 200 to 300 in only 28 deliveries, and reaching it in 147 balls.
Indian Boxer Mandeep Jangra Secures U.S Intercontinental Title
Indian boxer Mandeep Jangra secured a remarkable triumph at the US-based National Boxing Association’s (NBA) intercontinental super featherweight championship. His win came after a compelling bout against American Gerardo Esquivel in Toppenish City, Washington.
- Jangra, known for his prowess in the ring, showcased exceptional skill as he transitioned from his previous 75kg weight class to compete for the intercontinental super featherweight title. Trained under the guidance of former Olympic silver-medalist Roy Jones Jr, the 30-year-old displayed resilience and strategic brilliance throughout the match.

India nominates 12 forts of Marathas for UNESCO World Heritage List
India has nominated the “Maratha Military Landscapes”, a network of forts that showcase the strategic military powers of Maratha rule, for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list for 2024-25.
- The 12 components of this nomination are the forts of Salher, Shivneri, Lohagad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra and Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.
- India currently boasts 42 World Heritage Sites, comprising 34 cultural sites, seven natural sites, and one mixed site.
Asian Games medallist Roshibina named female wushu sanda player of year by international federation
Two-time Asian Games medallist Naorem Roshibina Devi was named International Wushu Federation’s (IWUF) female athlete of the year in sanda category after a month-long public voting.
- The 23-year-old Roshibina, who won a bronze and a silver in the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, polled 93545 votes to beat Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi (88179) of Iran and Wu Xiaowei (46753) of China.
- After the IWUF Athletes Committee’s preliminary evaluation, 45 candidates from 23 countries and regions entered in the public voting in various categories, said the IWUF, which announced the results.
